Buzz the fly

Winged troublemaker, truth-teller,
and fearless wanderer — Buzz flies
through chaos with wit, bad manners,
and a loyalty he never admits to.

🧭 Role

Buzz is the Forest’s anarchist — a small creature with big ideas and no patience for rules. He flits through the story, appearing briefly but always leaving a mark. In Book I, he is the first being Anne rescues — freed from a spider’s web just before being eaten by the evil Spider. From that moment on, they become friends. Though small and often overlooked, Buzz’s help often proves decisive — especially in the destruction of the fearsome Hainomat. He makes the surprise move. He’s not always around, but when he shows up, something always happens.

Buzz embodies the elusive, the rebellious — the spirit that never stands still. He brings chaos to the group, but also lightness and speed. He is a living interruption — a winged reminder that the Forest isn’t just rules, missions, and destiny. Sometimes, it’s simply a place where you can fly wherever you like.

For all his sarcasm and buzzing bravado, Buzz is more than comic relief. Beneath the bravado lies a kind of wisdom — the wisdom of someone who’s seen too much to take anything too seriously. He never asks for thanks, rarely explains himself, and scoffs at anything sentimental. And yet, when it matters most, he’s there — fast, sharp, and unshakably loyal in his own unruly way.

🎭 Symbolism

– Freedom = Buzz’s desire to be free from all constraints; he symbolizes independence.

– Bluntness = His directness is often a source of humor, but also of truth.

– Flight = Symbolizes detachment, the ability to see things from above — both literally and metaphorically.

– Independence = His refusal to be controlled, an embodiment of autonomy.

– Humor = Brings levity in dark moments and offers a comic perspective.

🗣️ Quotes

If this isn’t the best day of my life, then my name isn’t Buzz! Finally, one of those scoundrels got what was coming!

What a bunch of crooks! Everyone used to pass through here freely — no fees, no nonsense. Then suddenly they put up that contraption, and now everyone has to pay.

We study those machines in school — shake me awake and I’ll still tell you how they work.

We flies are a free people. We don’t like sitting still. And we *never* take orders…

📚 Evolution Across Books

Buzz doesn’t evolve. And he doesn’t need to. He’s exactly as we meet him at the start: talkative, independent, and utterly unpredictable. He’s not part of Anne’s deep emotional journey, but he brings a spark of wildness to the group. His presence is mostly limited to Book I, and by the end of it, he remains the same buzzing spark — free, untamed, and entirely himself.

In a story full of change and transformation, Buzz stands out precisely because he doesn’t change. He is a constant — a living reminder that not every character needs an arc to have impact. Sometimes, it’s the ones who stay the same who give the others space to grow. Buzz doesn’t seek meaning. He seeks motion. And in doing so, he becomes a kind of truth in himself — chaotic, honest, and impossible to pin down.

🕳️ Secrets / Theories

– Does Buzz have a home? A backstory? A hidden purpose? Probably not.

– But that’s exactly what makes him so charming.

– He exists on the edge of the narrative — never diving too deep, never staying in one place.

– Some readers suspect he has a secret role.

– Others just love him because he’s… Buzz.
