The Blind Bear is the first of the ghostly figures Anne encounters — and probably the most terrifying. Massive, enraged, cloaked in shadow, he radiates a fury that feels both ancient and deeply personal. His movements are guided by sound, not sight, and he charges as if hunted by something he cannot escape.

But he is not just a monster. Beneath the growling and the rage lies something fragile — a frightened little bear who no longer knows how to be held. His anger is armor, his size a shield. In rare moments when his fear recedes — like when Anne becomes a monster herself — this truth emerges. He softens. Falls silent. And he is no longer frightening.

He is not chasing Anne. He is chasing something he lost long ago.

In him, Anne sees something she doesn’t dare name — the rage she once felt, the helplessness she still carries. It’s not just his shadow that terrifies her, but the echo of her own. The Blind Bear is a mirror, cracked and trembling, showing her what grief becomes when it is buried too deep and for too long.

– His blindness may be a choice, not a fate — a refusal to see what remains of the past

– His presence terrifies Anne, but teaches her how to act with respect

– He may be connected to another ghost — always nearby, but never together

– Some theories suggest he’s still searching for the one he failed to protect — though he no longer remembers who it was

– In his final moments, he doesn’t seem like a monster, but like what he always was: a frightened little bear, lost in the dark
